7 Ways To Make Your Blog Post POP
Today’s blog audience is a lot more savvy than when blogging first started catching fire. These days you have to grab your audience and keep them, and it’s not an easy task.
You want your blog to be amusing, entertaining, informative and a place people want to visit often. The following list of suggestions will help you take your blog up a notch and accomplish all those things.
- Quality content. I know it sounds like your mother nagging you incessantly, and if you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million times. Still, it bears repeating – quality content counts. Think about the reasons why you visit a blog and why you want people to visit yours. This means choosing dynamic topics and writing well.
- Relative content. If your blog is about marketing or SEO, it’s probably not the place to write posts about how to plan a wedding or detailing personal problems. People are searching out your blog for a particular reason, and may become disgruntled or disillusioned if they expect to find certain information and it’s not there. Try not to stray too far from the subject matter.
- Interject some personality! That’s not to say you can’t include personal anecdotes – on the contrary, you want your audience to get to know you and relate to your experiences. Keep in mind the people coming to your blog or website are people just like you. You want to engage them and keep them coming back for more. People are much more likely to do this if they can relate to you.
- Well-formatted content. Make it easy for your readers to assimilate your stellar content. Use bullet lists, subheadings and plenty of white space. Don’t clutter up your site with lots of bells and whistles – sometimes, simpler really is better.
- Respond to comments. If someone has taken the time out to leave a comment on your blog, the polite thing to do is to respond. Everyone is crazy-busy, and it’s really an honor when a reader thinks enough of a blog post to leave a comment and let you know they appreciated it. If you have the time, follow them back to their blog and return the favor.
- Post consistently. There are as many schools of thought about how often you should update your blog as there are bloggers. Whatever schedule you choose, stick to it. This shows reliability, dependability and professionalism. It’s easy enough, when you have a few moments, to write posts up in advance and schedule them. Some bloggers take a day and write several blog posts at a time for that very purpose.
- Check your links regularly. There’s nothing worse than clicking on a link in a blog post and expecting it to take you somewhere helpful or significant and end up with a dead end. Things change, websites come and go, so do your readers a favor and check for broken links on a regular basis and clean them up.
Blogging is a lot of work, but if you keep these few suggestions in mind, it won’t take long to establish yourself as the go-to person for your niche. Above all, keep the quality high and your audience will notice for the right reasons.
